You bought some Heavy Metal!
Where is that engine stand from? That is the nicest I’ve ever seen!

The engine stand was thrown in to sweeten the deal. Not sure where it's from.

That’s a good friggin deal! That isn’t a HF or Farm And Fleet stand. That doesn’t look scary at all.

I don’t have an engine hoist, so getting it out of the truck and onto the stand was super sketchy, but we got it.
It was a killer deal. I got the engine, rebuilt Hughs Performance transmission, new torque converter, flex plate, new rocker arms, new throttle cables, new silicone rad hoses, and the stand or $750. The engine was originally owned by a mutual friend so it's known to be good, and the transmission is warrantied.

Right on!
I’ve been there on the sketchy ttansfer. Lots of muscle and leverage helps.

AMC?

Yeah, we were like 1/2" off on having the correct angle for sliding the stand mount onto to stand. I got the edge in then hammered it on with a 5lb sledge. The whole mount flexed a bit but held. I then slowed pulled away in the truck.

I think my dad has the same one. HF I’m guessing.

Deets. I need the deets.
Turbo 400?
Why the new block? What’s the specs?

I burned up the transmission in my GMC. A buddy was goin to be doing an engine and tranny swap in his ‘51 Chevy coupe, but he ended up wanting to buy a motorcycle. He gave me a killer deal on the transmission and engine together plus a bunch of other goodies for cheap, so I picked it up. It’s a turbo 350 transmission and a 350 SBC out of a ‘70s C10. The transmission was rebuilt by Hughs Performance. A different friend is the one who pulled the engine and started to work on it, so I’m not sure what he did to it yet. It's clearly been gone through and cleaned up though. I’m probably going to put a mild cam in it. I already have an Edelbrock carb and intake.
I got the engine, trans, engine stand, new rocker arms, new torque converter, new flex plate, and all new cables for $750. Too good of a deal to pass up.

Sounds like a good deal for sure. Just by the pulleys I could tell it was something custom. As long as everything turns as it should, I’d say you got a killer deal.

I really only needed the transmission, but rando rebuilt ones are going for $300, and new ones from Summit are $799, but I’d have to pay freight. I figured since this rebuilt one is warrantied, and I got everything else I’m gtg. Also, the guy who actually rebuilt it at Hughs is another friend’s father in law.

Then even more gtg. Sounds like a nice find. If only there were rebuilt euros floating around by people I know :,(

Yeah. One of my first projects was fixing up an ‘83 325e. It has been much easier to locally source stuff for my American vehicles. GM used the same stuff for so long, it makes finding stuff easy.

The local BMW page has a shit load of members and even then I have trouble finding what I need. Which is what attracts me to domestics.
Hmmm. I wonder if I put this 4.6 dohc into my e24.....

Plus, BMW changes stuff mid model year sometimes. My DME was fried in my E30, and I ended up finding out that from something like January to June of 1983, BMW used a different DME than in other cars. My wife was a newer BMW, and they even switch around simple stuff like boost controllers. Some cars have mechanical ones and some have electronic ones. Like, why not just use the same parts for the same cars? I love European cars, but it is just so much easier to make old American cars fast. My favorite thing about Euro cars is the aesthetics. If you stick with pre ‘70s American cars you can get that same attention to style. Both my ‘63 Corvair and ‘66 GMC are just cool looking cars.

I was always originally a domestic guy but the euros have won me over in the looks department.
That said domestics have the mechanical side down. My BMW may handle well, but it gets destroyed in a straight line by anything not japanese. I either need to hurry up with the $300 dollar lincoln, or turbo the BMW because frankly, it’s just not cutting it.

An SBC is an OHV engine but since it only have one camshaft (below the valves) it isn’t an OHC engine.
Your garage floor looks comfy.
